Hiking the Grand Canyon at dawn. Standing at an overlook with spectacular acoustics. Tour guide mentions that any sound will echo seven times. As if on cue—BRAAAAAP—a barking spider provides a demonstration.
All twenty hikers in our group stood in reverent silence, counting each of the seven echoes. The guide added it to his "Canyon Phenomena" talk, calling it "the ghost of the Colorado River speaking."
